Revs drop momentarily as throttle pushed

I've got a bit of an unusual one here. I took my GDI out for a drive yesterday which is perhaps only its second or third trip since I had the cylinder heads off to resolve fuel and noisy lifter issues. Whilst it seems to drive ok generally I noticed that the revs drop down and the engine sounds like its going to die for a split second when you press the throttle from idle. It's as though opening the throttle causes it to bog down but almost instantly recover. Any thought welcome.
