Mk2 98 Shogun

Just got into the car and turned the cd player on. Motor started to make a noise but aerial did not go up. Turned it off then on again and it went up. Parked up after the drive, switched engine off motor started to make the noise but aerial stayed up.

It normally goes down after I switch the cd player off or turn the engine off.

I've seen a few aerial threads but i'm not sure they apply in this case.

What do you think is wrong? And what should I check first?

The motor is obviously working OK so it will be the teeth on the nylon belt on the bottom of the mast that is missing a few teeth. The mast is reasonably easy to replace.
