|
|
Hello Guys,
hello and greetings from Poland
I got an issue which, I think, my Polish friends can’t handle… I received no single answer or even a sign of it in a week… I hope You, as bigger Pajero owners community will be able to help me.
So, in my fresh bought 1995 Pajero 2 with 2,5 liter Turbo Diesel (with easyselect manual gearbox) speedometer and rpm gauge doesn’t work. Both died in the same moment, fuel, temp and all the lights works fine.
Sorry, but forum doesn't allow me to send attachment... Below are links to pictures of my gauges, to copy and paste to the browser.

ibb.co/pL71PGD
ibb.co/0rHqrd9
What I already did:
- I re-soldered all visible soldering points on the „back” of the meter board (I red that cold joints is common problem)
- I replaced whole set of meters with set with exactly the same OEM numbers (guy who sold me this piece was making me sure that it’s working because he took it off working car)
- I checked every single fuse in the car
- I cleaned all connectors with connector spray
- previous owner told me he replaced speed sensor in the gearbox
As You think - with no reaction. Where should I look for the issue next? Do 2.8 meter set work in 2.5 Pajero? This question is because after I looked for meters OEM number in google It threw out 2.8 results.
I took a look into electrical wiring diagrams, but I didn’t find anything interesting. In my opinion it’s barely not possible for both sensors (one in the pump and in the gearbox - am I right that rpms are being taken from injection pump?) died in the same moment. Maybe both meters have common ground cable, which could be damaged?
Thanks in forward for Your kind answers, I think You’re my last hope here. As I feel good in technical things I don't want to give the car out to the workshop which will charge a million for even easy job.
Best regards
Michał (Michael is fine ) |

Let's try and solicit a mk2 owner response, as I don't know if the '89 mk1 has the same gauge inputs same as your 95 mk2.
On my '89 Mk1, the speedo is fed via a flexible cable from the gearbox. whilst the rev counter is an electrical feed from the alternator.
You would easily see a cable drive for the speedo by looking under the truck. |

From limited research, I think the rpm sensor might on a bracket at the front of the crankshaft.
I agree very strange that both tachometer and speedometer stopped working at the same time. Might be a shared earth problem, as you suggest. If you could borrow an oscilloscope, that's the best way of showing the signal from the sensors.
I don't have a 2.5 Mk2, but hope that raising the comment count might get others interested. |

Thanks Guys!

Unfortunately not here - speedometer is electronic, not fed by mechanical rotating cord, there is pulser sensor in the gearbox. About rev counter there are 2 ways - some mk2's has as Yours, signal from alternator, but more commonly signal for revs comes from injection pump here.

Do You got any reference for that? It's first time I see such statement, from my research it comes as I wrote above - alternator or more commonly injection pump Maybe I'm wrong...

Is there any possibility to check the sensors by simple electric multimeter? I'm worried that it may be hard for me to find oscilloscope. Maybe resistances? |

I simply did a Google search for Mitsubishi 2.5 rpm sensor and got various references to the crankshaft. It may be that different versions of the 4D56 engines have different sensor locations though

I don't think you can do it with a multimeter as it's a pulsed signal. |

Hi Guys,
so, as I will have possibility to get under the car and start exact disassembly of anything earliest in approx. 2 weeks I started to collect theoretical knowledge.
So, here is diagram of meter installation (sorry for need of copy>paste but IDK why I can't use img bb tags):
ibb.co/BGmBqrd
As I understand I should consider ground point #13 as the one for speedometer (for rpms as I understand I should consider #8 in 4D56 engine, am I right?). I started to look after those and... as in RHD vehicles it is pretty available (right side):
ibb.co/s3NKP9P
In LHD... ehkm, am I blind or #13 doesn't exist?
ibb.co/DwdnM0G
ibb.co/zfmBXq9
I'm confused now. Anyone? Anything? Cheers. |
