Just posting a possible fix for the ASC Light Coming on then Engine Management Light and Car
going into Limp Home Mode
It started about 2 months after we bought the Shogun
GLS ELEGANCE LWB DI-D (MK4 (V98)) 59 Plate

You'd be driving along at 60 miles and hour and the the car would sort of shudder a bit and the ASC Light would come on
(sometimes with Engine Light as well) and the car would drastically lose power and go into Limp Home Mode
Knock the car off and re start it - ASC light would go out (Engine Light sometimes stayed on) and the car would drive fine again
Over the next 6 weeks it steadily got worse to the point where anything over 55 mile an hour or on any hill where you had to use
throttle ie putting it under load it would do it.

It went into my local garage who cleaned inlet manifold cleaned EGR etc but it made little difference.
I knew it was something simple as in every other respect the vehicle drove fine but did seem underpowered

I started to look at a possible boost leak or blocked breather hose and looked at every hose but couldn't find anything until I looked closely at the
little hose that feeds the Map Sensor

There's a flexible plastic cover over the rubber hose which had a small hole in it I pulled back the covering and found a small slit in the
rubber hose and rubber had turned mushy and very pliant like blue tack

Replaced that and bingo all the problems gone - loads more power instant response and no ASC Light whatsoever
I replaced the Map Sensor as well as a precaution

So if your having problems with the ASC light coming on and going into limp home mode
then look at the hose that goes to the Map sensor

The Part Number for the hose section to the Map Sensor is 2036A136 which is available from any Mitsubishi Dealer or Mitsubishi Parts Supplier

Do you happen to know if you recorded any error codes when this happened.

Sorry but I never recorded the error codes but they were to do with the
Turbo itself/actuator and the map sensor
They were in fact ambiguous apart from Map Sensor one which drove me to look at the hosing along with another post
on the net

If your car drives around town normally and once under load give the ASC light then look at that hose
That hose goes like blue tack (Read Cheese)

It's a cheap fix - in fact it's the FIRST thing you should look at as looking at the design
it's going to happen to all MK4  3.5 DID engines

The bend is too harsh on the hose and the plastic cover will rupture allowing water/moisture in
and the rubber will deteriorate

Hi,
Just to add a bit to this post I had exactly the same symptoms on my mark 3, has happened twice in 3 years, where rubber pipe from the map sensor pushes on to (I think its some sort of filter that screws into the block)cakes up with carbon  almost blocking it, don't know if the mark 4 is exactly the same  if it is, it's worth checking also, cleaned mine with brake cleaner and no more lights.
