Hi
Anyone has any experience of the centre diffs on shotgun 2001 playing up? I'm beginning to think this might be the problem I am having my shogun rear end fighting when I turn the vehicle, only does it when it's completely warmed through.
Other ideas are rear diff, if I have RD locking switch dies that mean my rear diff is a conventional type, ie not a lsd?
Appreciate you help folks, I'm getting closer to my epic overland Africa trip and I'm getting twitchy about getting this sorted
Thanks

I'm not an expert on these, but if there's a switch then I'd say you've got a locking rear diff. If it feels odd when cornering, to me it sounds like the diff is remaining locked. Sure it's not in the locked position? Could the warning bulb have failed? |

Thanks man, its not as bad as when the diff lockers are on, more like some binding. Ive seen elsewhere people have had similar problems with bad / water mixed diff oil, so will change the oil first see if that changes anything.
I gather it's a gear lsd not a disc type but the oil quality is stil pretty key I guess!
Keep everything crossed for me |

My shotguns only need cleaning periodically.
Your description suggests you are driving on the road with the centre diff lock engaged, if this is the case then it is driver error in driving on a solid surface with the centre diff locked is a basic no, no as this will trash the transmission.
You could also be moving incorrectly, again driver error, and to shift you move one position at a time and let it engage before moving to the next position as many people move straight from 2H to 4L in one motion.
Your system could be sticky due to lack of, or repeated incorrrect use.
To check:
Go into the vehicle and turn the ignition on and note the indicator, all four green wheel lights will display along with two orange lights, one in the centre is the centre differential, the lower one is the rear axle.
Start the engine but do not move, the lights will go out and only indicate which wheels, diff locks are engaged, if you have two or four green lights lit then either two or four wheels are engaged and if you have the lower orange light on the rear diff lock is engaged, and if you have the lower and middle orange light on the rear axle and centre diff lock are engaged.
Note the position of the mode selector lever and check it corresponds to the lights, if not them move the mode selector to correspond to the lights.
Put the vehicle into N (neutral) with the handbrake on and footbrake off.
Move the mode selector back one position and allow it to change, this may take several seconds to do.
Move it back another position and allow it to change as above, continue until it is cack in 2 wheel drive. |
