Does anybody know a easy way to remove the rear trims that go around the wheel arch (on the outside), don't want to just pull them off as knowing me i'll break whatever holds them on.

Many thanks

On the MK3 SWB they are secured by a couple of screws under the wheel arch and then a number of plastic trim clips around the edges. Undo the screws then gently prise off from one end, as normal some of the trim clips break but are easily replaced

This example Mk 4 (same fixings) clearly shows method of attachment

These screws under the whelarch are easily visible and undoubtedly Simon will have spotted them, it is the double sided tape which fixes the rest of the trim on which isn't visible.

Yes i have seen the screws under the wheel arch (not much holding them in) its the other bit so either double sided tape are plastic clips one way to find out (when the weather is better)
Thanks for the replies

Double sided tape Simon, but if you take it off then have some decent double sided tape to replace it.
