I ran my old Cherokee in 4 wheel drive only for nine years with no problems. I was going to do the same with my Shogun, but was told (on facebook, arrggh!!) that you shouldn't do that with this car. Is that true, or is someone telling me nonsense?

Many thanks!

What was the reason given - Diff problems?

If so that's not true.

The recommended setting for towing is 4WD and this summer just gone I've travelled over 3,500 miles round Europe in 4WD without incident.

The same is not true for the gearbox settings locking the central diff though.

You can (and a lot of people do) drive in 4WH on the road permanently if you wish. But you can only select 4WHL or 4WLL when on a loose surface such as sand, mud and snow. It’s all in the manual and on a sticker on the drivers door.
