|
|
Got a mk2 2.8, not used for about a month, went to start today and it started to crank then just stopped, plenty of battery, dash lights up etc. Couple of months ago I noticed it turned over slower, could started have died on me ???, don't really want to have to change starter outside my house on a hill, is there any way to bump start a auto so I can drive to my garage??
Thanks in advance for and help |

There is no way of bump starting an automatic unfortunately.
check that the cables to the stater are clean. .you might have a poor contact
. And maby a little love tap with a bit of timber and a hammer sometimes works. |

Ok there is not much you can do while it's in the car.
But in saying that there are a few things you can try to find out
What part of the starter is at fault.
The first is to check cables as I said before
The brushes can be checked by crossing the two big cables on the starter
Together and the starter should spin fast without turning the engine over
If it spins keep it going and see if it starts to slow down after a few seconds or so.
If it spins fast and dosent really slow down. ..then it's a good chance its the contact inside the selonoide that is bad.
If that's the case you could try to bypass the selonoide contact
By taking a piace of small wire to engage the selonoide and at the same time
Cross the two big cables with a screw driver .
The selonoide has two jobs ...to push the starter gear out to contact the engine flyweel so that the engine will turn over.
And the other job it does is correct the two big cables together from the inside of the selonoide. So by crossing the two big cables together from the outside is the same the but withoutthe engine turning so that is why you need to use the small wire to engage the selonoide to push the gear out.
Hope that makes sense |

hi
I did a starter motor on one its abit tricky to get out but not impossible it was the seloniod that was the fault on mine
check the spade connector on the selonoid is ok and the connection is good first and your getting 12volts there when you crank it over |
