|
|
Hi Guys
Pajero 1996 2.8 Auto
Usually on cold start I turn the key wait for glow plug light to go out and then wait for the big CLICK and it would start straight away.
Suddenly the CLICK no longer sounds and its very hard to start.
1. Checked the glow plugs all reading 1.5 ohms
2. Replaced the Bus bar
3. Replaced the Glow plug relay.
Still no CLICK and still difficult to start.
What else is in this circuit to prevent the CLICK
I haven't looked at the water temp sensor as it was changed last year.
Also my diesel pump was rebuilt 6 months ago.
Thanks

Hello. My guess would be the glow plug controller/ECU, which (at least on earlier models) is situated in the passenger side kick panel. |

Hello. On mine there is a plastic side panel where the passengers left foot would be, it is under that. |

Trying to locate the glow plug control unit. It’s not in the passenger foot well that is the engine control unit in that location. I rigged up a test light to the bus bar and put 12 volts to the glow relay and it lights up straight away and when I cut the power the relay makes the big click. So I have a problem with the power supply not reaching the glow relay. I’ve done an ohms check on the coolant sensor and it’s reading in spec. So I need to locate the glow control unit. There must be on as it’s listed for my car on mega zip just don’t say where it is. 🤔 |

SOLVED!!
Spoke to a specialist who assured me I won’t find one as
It’s integrated within the engine ecu. Luckily I have a spare so
Swapped them over and the click is back and starting as it should
Opened the duff ECU and it’s cooked which looks to me like
A bridge rectifier (Melted it). I’m hoping now after changing the
Bus bar and relay this problem don’t return.
So location for glow plug control unit is infact your ECU.
Hope this helps someone

That's because yours is a 1996 model with engine management - older MkII s don't have an engine ECU so the glow control unit is under that trim panel. |
