Hi guys,  thinking of changing the torque converter as the truck has done 135k and seems to be getting a little sluggish when pulling away and was wondering how big of a job it is?
Has anyone here done this and is it worth it?
Any advice appreciated thanks

Is it worth it? generally the answer is no because there are far more other things which can cause this problem so begin at the beginning.

Is the ATF level correct and are you checking the level correctly as it has a checking procedure which most people dont know?

What condition is the ATF in? if it is anything other than cherry red then it needs replacing, brown means it needs replacing as it is breaking down, and black means it is totally shot and the brake bands are breaking up.

Has the correct ATF been used? they only use Dia Queen SP III and many people put the wrong ATF in them, often cheaper Dexron products or multi vehicle products which do not meet SP III and this breaks down quickly as these boxes run extremely hot when compared to other automatic transmissions.

Has your ATF been contaminated? on your model the dipstick tube often became dislodged and this allowed contamination into the gearbox and this hammers the ATF and often clogs the filter located inside the gearbox. Filters are cheap but the gearbox sump doesn't have a gasket as it uses a sealant which must be correctly applied in a 3mm bead, you will also need a wooden wedge to break the sealant bond to the sump, and clean the old sealant from the gearbox sump flange and the sump itself.
