First go at texting on this si
te. I am 72 and I have no idea what I am doing. I am removing the heads on my 2000 3.5 v6 gdi dohc.

There is a water passage pipe connecting both heads at the rear between the bulkhead, I have removed the 2 bolts from the right hand side, my pet octopus can't get at the other 2. Any bod know how to get at em?

THANKS.. TED JONES

Do you have a workshop manual for the engine?  If not, try and find one online as it will surely have the answer you're looking for.

Yes Ted, you've put the reply in exactly the right place and have included a quote too. Excellent!

I've read various tales of skinned knuckles and swearing when trying to get these cylinder heads off, so maybe you should stock up on sticking plasters before your next attempt.

I find these ratchet ring spanners very useful on hard to access nuts and bolts.  Sometimes having a break and approaching it with a fresh mind the next day works wonders too!

This pipe is really hard.  I had to remove the camshaft covers and a lot of pipes and stuff to get to the pipe.  If you have done this and still cant reach the bolts you might simply remove the both heads in one go with them joined by the pipe and then remove the pipe.

I am assuming you have taken the air-filter box, battery, intake manifold and all the obvious things.  Next step would be the cam-covers and all the pipes that run through the center of the engine.
Regards
M
