Toying with buying eiether a 3.2 DI-D Diesel or the 3.5 GDI 2004 ish ie upto £4-4500 as some of you will already have these and use them what sort of mpg are you getting from the diesel/petrol, if poss im after the SWB weather that makes any real difference to the mpg ! unknown.
Still keeping our old 2.5 SWB Pajero as we have had it over 10 years now and the most reliable car iv ever had in 40+ years of driving. Hoping the Mk3 Shogun will be the same  Rolling Eyes

I’m running a 2005 MK 3 3.5 GDI  SWB - getting constant 20 mpg about town and short stop start trips.  On longer runs getting 28 - 30 Mpg

Hope that helps

3.8L V6 automatic: 16.7 L/100 Km overall, the best has been 15.0 L/100 Km across the Nullarbor at a steady 80-90 Km/h. A lot more (20-27 L/100 Km in dunes.

The engine (actually the entire vehicle) has been 100% reliable. The automatic transmission ratios mean that there's a bit of a gap between 1st and 2nd - on steep hills (we have a lot) when you slow to the lower end of 2nd the rpm kicks up quite high when it goes into 1st - however this is not any sort of issue, just an observation. Lots of power available, although it's not going to keep up with my brother-in-law's Mini John Cooper Works...

No idea about UK road tax however we pay 3.5% of the vehicle value (as determined by the tax authority) annually, which is around GBP1200 for a new Montero (Pajero/Shogun) today.
