loud knock in thermostat housing

hi all hope you can help with this started the car last night to loud knock in the thermostat housing. Scoped motor, water pump and all around. The only place the knock is coming from thermostat housing strange as I've never herd a noise coming from there before. Hope you can give me some idea on what going on.

I would take thermostat housing off and check thermostat to see if anything had come adrift,could be the thermostat as broke apart some how and the water flow is rattling it against the housing.

Water pump is cam belt driven so unless you removed the cam belt cover its unsightly you have scoped that....
