I am guessing theres a mechanical connection between the door key and the locking solenoid?

The 'remote fob'  is usually for the alarm, which is most likely a Cobra 8165. To obtain replacements Cobra need the alarm module's serial number and PIN. The alarm was a dealer-fitted unit and unfortunately, sometimes, the serial number label wasn't fixed to the module (which is behind the drivers-side footwell panel). From what I've learned the serial number and PIN were mostly fixed to the inside of the service record book that came with the truck.

As others have said, there's a mechanical linkage and switch sensor around the door lock that should trigger the central locking. Removing the door card and insulation over the lock should reveal the problem - likely rusted or broken linage to the sensor. If not, could be an electrical connection issue between sensor and central door locking control.
