|
|
Some weeks ago I buyed a reverse camera to fit in the license plate housing on the back door (tailgate).
Now I have to remove the panel on the inside of the door to wire the whole thing.
It's the part on wich the tool-box and the little luggage-net is mounted.
How do I pry this panel off without damaging it? There must be some way or steps to follow, but I can't find it, getting mad about it.
Can someone please help me? |

When I took it off to access the spare wheel mounting bolts (2003 LWB) I had to pop out the clips around the window trim and remove it first, because that panel overlaps (I think) the lower panel. It's a while since I did so I cannot recall if there were a couple of screws in the lower panel but mostly it is press-fit plastic clips. I started along the upper edge and worked around the edge furthest from the hinges so I could see what else I needed to take care of.
There are so many panel clips inside and outside I recently bought a tool designed specifically for easily removing those clips when they're on an accessible edge. |

Well it is some job (and not finished yet)!
I managed to do the window trim, but the lower panel is not willing to move.
These japanese engineers made something horrible!
Every clip it not just to be pulled out backwards (as usally), but all should be pulled off in a different direction so you have to twist the panel! Why so complicated? Or am I doing something wrong?
The upper trim is flexible enough to do this, but the lower trim...... I cant get it off.
Maybe I should ask someone like... a Mitsubishi dealer? 4x4 shop? a japanese car dissembler? a damage repair shop? Or some one here who knows the tric... |

Hi,
Had mine of the other day due to a sticking handle sometimes not opening back door, mine came off pretty quick, make sure you've got the 2 screws in the net area out and the 2 plastic studs holding the other small storage area out, I prised the top right hand corner of panel out till I could see the first plastic stud get a screw driver down there and prise the stud out of it's location after the first one the rest should be easier.

YES! It works. Thanks a lot all of you.
Unfortunately I still can't post pictures larger than 1 byte , but I've got the panel off!
I was too careful the first time, should just have applied more power (and using some momentum by a large flat screwdriver). Now I did.
The few plugs that remained in the body could be carefully removed by both a scissor or a wire cutter
I damaged just one of the 15 plugs, but I guess that one can be missed.
Now I can go on with the job |
