Hello,

I have recently bought a 2009 mitsubishi shogun Lwb 3.2 auto. It has 99K miles on it.

My question is, should I change my auto gearbox oil and filter?    I believe it has never been changed before. I have read in some places that if it has gone beyond the service intervals, your better off just leaving your auto gearbox alone.         And I've also read that you must change it regardless, so unsure what to do lol.    (never had an auto car before).

Thank you for your responses.

It has the Aisin transmission and they specify a change every 80,000 miles for these transmissions.

However, Mitsubishi check them at every service and this is a visual check only, it doesn't determine the state of the ATF even though its colour may be correct, for peace of mind I would change it.

What idiot said leave it alone? they know nothing about autos or anything else for that matter, certainly have no engineering abilities or qualifications as leaving it will trash your brake bands in no time and thet means a new auto box, so for what it costs get it changed, you can do it yourself easily as you don't need a filter change as they are a screen mesh and self clean everytime you stop the engine and the ATF fluid drains back.
