I've been having problems with the front lights flashing whilst in 2wd for a year or so, its been a bit hit and miss ie not always flashing.
Of late its got worse, now they are flashing permanently.
What I've checked so far
Actuator shaft does move when the system works, checked and greased last weekend when I started the fault finding.
Solenoid resistance Blue 44 Ohms, Yellow 190 ohms (this is probably the issue), as it should be less than 45 ohms.
Voltage to both solenoids checked, when in 2wd, there are 12v to both blue and yellow, when in 4wd no volts to either?, is this correct.
There is vacuum in the system as when I disconnect the blue solenoid hose i can hear air being pulled in.

Is there a decent vacuum drawing available, I assume that vacuum is applied to one side of the actuator, the other being opened to atmosphere, when the actuator is asked to select 2 or 4wd can anyone confirm this. This would mean that when in 2wd the yellow solenoid is open allowing vacuum to the actuator whilst the blue actuator must open to atmosphere, can this be confirmed, ive read the workshop manual several times and believe this is what is supposed to happen, however as i dont have a vacuum gauge i cannot test as per the book.

Any help would be appreciated, once I've sorted this I will do a better wright up of the fault finding process, as the linked articles do not really go into much detail on fault finding.

Either way the first step is to replace the high resistance solenoid, therefore im on the look out for a decent solenoid set, have posted on the Pajero mart facebook site, but if anyone has one please let me know.

Yes read through that thread. Just cannot find derivative answers, on how the vacuum system works and whether both solenoids should be energised when in 2wd.
I'll go with the solenoid replacement first.

I am almost sure that one solenoid provides vacuum to engage 4WD and the other provides vacuum to disengage it - so only one would be energised at any one time.

Ive managed to find a wiring diagram that indicates both being energised / de energised, therefore the solenoids must be somehow different, once i get a spare i will investigate further.

Here is the wiring diagram, it would appear once 2wd is selected both are energised, 4wd neither energised as the connection to earth is removed.

I would be checking or at least trying a solenoid at a time, only time i had issues was when air/moisture around this time of year and must have got in the solenoids/plugs. All i did was unplug the 2 inner arch solenoids on drivers side, sprayed in abundance electrical cleaner and plugged back. This stopped the flashing top lights...........different note, one day my temp gauge did not move from min, again unplug off the stat housing and electrical cleaner sorted that too.........

Not saying its that easy, but solenoids would be my 1st port of call if all pipes are fine(no splits/holes etc)

I had the solenoids out last week and checked the resistance 190 & 44 ohms. I also checked the voltage to each solenoid.
Looking to replace as the high resistance is probably the cause of the problem.

thread brought back to life, how do you check the resistance?
