The screen in my 2010 mk4 LWB must have been replaced prior to my ownership (and not a very good job)

Consequently the rubber trim moulding that fills the gap between screen and frame came loose and started flapping about on a long motorway journey leading me to pulling it off (with not much resistance) and stashing it in the boot.

I’ll ring Mitsubishi to enquire about a new one on Monday

However, does anyone know how it should correctly be fitted? I assume bonded in with the windscreen such that it isn’t coming out again without a fight? Does the screen need to come out to properly refit the rubber?

Thanks

You assume correctly Tom, when they bond the windscreen in they should use a wide film of adhesive to fill the gaps until it comes out of the side and the trims are inserted into this adhesive and they all cure together; never use something solid like epoxy to bond them in as they need flexibility and some I know use Evo Stick as it is a contact adhesive and flexible.

When they refit new screens many of their fitters are self employed yet have all the company liveried vans and clothing, they also have to buy their materials through the company and they try to mitigate this expense by skimping on consumables such as adhesive and put the least amount on they think they can get away with.

By comparison any BMW dealer who does their own and doesn't sub it out, lathers the adhesive on and their philosophy is you can wipe excess off but not put more on when the screens in.
