the release thingy isn't working.....there's a lot of free play on the catch (cable snapped???)

Is there any way of opening the bonnet without having to take it to the local mechanic ?

Cheerz

Jo

Yep, if it is the Mk11 model, which I think is the one you have, you grap the little plastic grill on the front, abd give it a good yank, tep, yank I said !!!
this will bring it out of the clips, and you shouldn't break any, if you do, I may have one here, then you can get at the relaese mechanism form there.

have fun, to help, sopmetines if yuowarm the arera around the clips wih a hair dryer, or boiling water, this may relax them enough.

But, that is the way.

This may help:

My transit was like this, I had to have someone pull and hold the release lever while I moved the catch under the bonnet.
