|
|
Hi all,
I get bored to see -26 C all the time in my indoor temperature gauge.
I found that the sensor is a 1000 ohm NTC thermistor (in fact 1000 ohms gives 24 C instead of 25 C but my 1000 ohm resistor was only 999 ohms) . I didn't bother to make reverse engineering to calculate specifications (and there are blenty of those thermistors). Here are some resistances and corresponding temperatures:
Code: |
Ohms Cel Ohms Cel Ohms Cel Ohms Cel Ohms Cel
15000 -20 5230 -10 2800 0 1750 10 1144 20
13000 -19 4700 -9 2670 1 1720 11 1100 21
10850 -18 4300 -8 2530 2 1650 12 1089 22
10000 -17 4100 -7 2400 3 1575 13 1044 23

5600 -11 2930 -1 1800 9 1200 19 820 29 |
In thermistor it is insignificant which way you solder the wires. I found thermistor with a nut and that was very easy to fit.

Thanks Marko, these are helpful
Question: I am still not sure how these thermistors work, let's say we use an 820 ohm thermistor, does it mean the MAX temp. that can be measured is 29C !?... and if so, what thermistor value is needed to measure inside temp about 40C !!!! In summer that's how hot it is in Cyprus |

Hi Trig,
you need a 1000 ohm thermistor, thermistors are "named" with resistance at 25 C. So called nominal value.
Ntc thremistor is a component that gives high resistance value in cold and the resistance is decreasing logarithmically when warmer. Pajero temp gauge cannot show less than -26 C, max value is more than 60 C. The thermistor will be wide enough (i.e. -25C .. +80C), the temp gauge is the limiting part of the system. Here is some more values for warmer end:
Code: |
Ohm Cels
680 33
560 38
470 43
390 47
300 52
270 54
220 57
200 59
180 62 |
When selecting your component, first you need a 1000 ohm ntc thermistor. And if your supplier have temperature vs. resistance tables /curves select the thermistor that gives the best match to these values for example at 0C and 50C (50 C is about 330 ohms). If he don't have tables you can take one and try. It doesn't cost much, should be less than 1 euro. I bought mine at 50 cent.

PS. You can print out this thread and show R/T values in your component store. They can select the best component.
