Ithink it is Makro, and Aldi that are selling one at the moment, many makes around, and soft ware, Tom tom being one of the best for A to B road work, yo9u then can load OS maps, via Navman, navigator etc, one site to look at is www.holux.co.uk or totalpda.co.uk they seem to know what they are on about.

I've got an ipaq with Tomtom 3 installed (dodgy copy) and find it great for getting around, no more messing about with my atlas while I am on the move. You can also download and input various points of interest including the speed camera database. I have all of the caravan club sites on mine and you just pick out the site name from the index and it guides you direct to the door, no more 3 point turns with a caravan.
Get one you won't regret it. |

I was where u are a month ago - and got the Ipaq/TomTom deal (£299incl). It's great as it also doubles as my mp3 player and plays movies too The windscreen mount is rock solid and mines never slipped/detatched in the last month
This version of TomTom is the new single platform version, a bit cut down from TT3. PM me for more details if you want. It's easy to put the speed camera overlay on too - this will allow you to slow down in those accident blackspots
The ipaq you get in the kit is the RZ1710 and it comes with pocket office. Get a bigger SD card (256MB) so you can store films and mp3's as the one that 'comes with' is only really big enough for tomtom and the speed camera overlay.
IMHO much better than just a dedicated unit.

i've got an ipaq 4150 with tomtom 3 installed. connects via bluetooth to a tomtom wireless gps receiver. i suggest you go for a pda and a gps receiver rather than buy the tomtom go since there are a lot more things you can do with a pda other than mere navigation. |

i still havent got one i pretty much decided on a stand alone unit but after reading this i think a pda and tom tom would be better anyway was talking to my friend a few weeks ago and he said his dad uses a PDA and tom tom and that he will bring it over so i can have a play use it for a few days and see what i think still waiting for him to bring it though. i'll post up which one i get when i finally get around to buying one

Hi M8
Thanks for replying.
I did the deed, went and bought a TomTom Go.
It’s the dogs B0ll0x.
I spent about 11/2 hours in PC World deciding which was best for me. Whilst there I bumped in to Gary who runs 'Lets go off-road' with the same problem, he went away with his head spinning but favouring the higher spec PDA/gps....he was going to sleep on it and go back.
I wasn’t bothered about a PDA, I am more concerned about portability from car to car. The IPAQ/gps is wired and a bit messy with cables, if you go for the next model IPAQ 2210?/gps its Bluetooth so less wires but, the gps receiver needs power(no battery back-up) and its about £450.
It all depends what you want. There are many advantages/disadvantages with both.
I have just downloaded the speed camera database that Tester wrote about, you can save them as POI and attach warning alarms to go off 250+m before. But this can be done on both systems.
PM me if you want any more info on the TOMTOM Go.
Cheers
