Every now and again, I get a query ...
Quote:
"I received an email notifying me I received a PM, but when I logged in, there was no PM there - what happened?"

This is a common problem, caused by the sender of the PM ...

Let's say it's me sending you a PM ... Here's the scenario ...

I send the PM and it goes to my outbox, with a LINK to your inbox.
At the same time that I send it, if you've asked to be notified of PM by email, then you are sent an email notification.
Until you view the message, it remains in my outbox with a link to your inbox.

Now, one of two things happens ...

either, you open the PM, when a 'hard copy' goes to your inbox and my copy goes to my sentbox

or, If I delete the PM from my outbox before you have read the message, the message in my outbox AND the link to your inbox disappear.

It is most likely that somebody sent you a PM, then either changed their mind, so deleted it from their outbox, or unwittingly deleted it from their outbox not realising that you never get to see it.

A number of people have cried foul when this has happened before, suspecting that I waste my day trawling through PM's, deleting ones that I'm not happy with ... it's really not so contrived!
