Just to throw a spanner in the works, I have a UK spec shogun WITH an EGR, and no, I would NEVER consider blocking it...if it fails I'll fix it.

Hi all,

I believe that if an engine was designed to have this device(EGR) on the engine then it should be left to do what it was intended to do and perform. As JayCee has already said if your Paj is smoking a lot clean the EGR out and replace it. I know a few Paj owners who have blocked off there EGR's and they have all said it cured the excessive smoke, but they are starting to have other problems and are considering removing the blanking plate. It just seems those who have blocked there's off seem to be the ones thinking about removing them.

Ours has had the blanking plate fitted for about 18 months now ... no noticible power increase, (Mind you, We're not heavy footed drivers Wink ), hard to say if there's an mpg improvement BUT ... there's no belching smoke AND we've flown through two MOT's since the blanking plate was fitted, with no 'fiddling with the fuel pump' that was previously required to pass the emissions test.

I haven't considered removing the plate once!

Simon

Based on the above Simon..
I'd say your Erg valve is jammed open..
I.E. .. Always dumping into the Inlet and thereby raising the emissions ..

Did you ever try removing the erg valve and freeing it up...?

Evening
When I bought my Paj 18 months ago, gave it a check over and found 2xball-bearings in the egr vac pipe.
It passed its mot in june, then I decided to check the egr valve in august,
It was a bit "dirty"but not stuck. I sucked the vac pump and the valve opened and closed ok.
Then decided to go all the way and fit blanking plate.
Did this and [by coincidence? ] my head cracked 3 weeks later Crying or Very sad
Head now replaced and all going well Very Happy
Valve still blanked off, but still undecided about removing it Confused
Surely by blanking it, it wouldn't have cracked that quickly ?
bye

I am puzzled ! Would the club sell blanking plates to us if the fitting of them makes it more likely to cause the cylinder head to crack, can anybody from the POCUK admin or on line shop please enlighten us, as I have fitted one about two months ago and if it is going to wreck my beast, I need to remove it RAPID !!!

Hi all,

As i have said, if the engine is suposed to run with it, leave well alone. A lot of thought and money goes into desgning an engine. All these so called quick mods to squeeze more power out of the engine and and then have a moan at the fuel consumption does get on my wick a little, just service them regular and they will give you years of faithful service. Remember if it's not broken , don't fix it...

We did a lot of research last year due to a few head problems.
The results seem to be related to high egt's, precisely the thing that the egr valve is supposed to reduce.
If you have a heavy right foot, or regularly go on long journeys it would seem to be prudent to either:- (A) replace and refurbish the egr valve
or:- (B) fit a water/methanol injection system without the egr valve. See:- http://www.turbotuning.net/E/index.htm
If you drive with a light right foot, there wouldn't be as much of a problem due to the lower egt's in an under worked engine.
My friend has been running without an egr valve for over a year with no probs.

The EGR is there to reduce the NOX emission.
In other countries with not so strict emission standard, it is not even fitted for the same engine. So is there a relationship in this case ?
I would say that "No EGR is the same as EGR blanking plate installed".

well,if that's the case,i would ask;
are the injecters the same?
are the fuel pumps the same?
and are the engines set up the same?
try buying the parts from mitsi and i think you'll find that it's not Rolling Eyes
