Well what can I say? everyone wants to get the best economy possible, and I don't blame them. So, just to make you all happy, even you petrol drinkers, my 2.8td gives me at the last count 17 miles to the gallon. Yes 17 and I don't give a dam anymore because it's fun, fun, fun. ok the pump is turned up and it does go like a saturn V rocket as some of you have seen, the smoke is a bit of a *beep*, but thats life. Still my paj is still more fuel efficient than a "Challenger 2 Tank" that only returns half a mile a gallon. It's nearly as robust, a lot more comfortable, less noisey and looks a lot more pretty. NUFF SAID!

Slowly,in the year I have had her, my MPG has improved to a shade under 25 MPG from about 19 on a run.
My VW Golf diesel will get from Inverness to Staples Corner (580mls) on a tankfull...
Cheers Geo. |

I have just returned from my first trip with my 1995 2.5 LWB, Auto, with 57 km on it, that I have had for just one week, although I was aware of the fuel consumption about 25 mpg it still came as a shock the amount of fuel I used while pulling my two berth caravan about 20 mpg and I must say it did not pull as well as I thought it would.
However up till now I love it and will just have to get used to pulling into garages more, I suppose its years of driving cars because I also have a Mondeo diesel that gets about 50 mpg ( but not in the same league ) |

I like your views on fuel economy Windmillpete. As for my swb 2.8 man, well I have had it over a year and just got round to finding out how far it doesnt go per gallon. Over 316 miles(a full tank of dismal) she returned an avergae of 25mpg. I know thats not good but I dont really care. If I want to take the pajero somewhere thats what she drinks. I had a car that drank far less but swapped it for comfort and do not regret doing so. |

I dont know what it does to the gallon and I dont care, I just keep filling it up and keep smiling As for towing, I've noticed a few people saying that their Pajeros dont tow as they expected Well I have a Tabbert Comtesse 540 which is a heavy twin axle van to start with, and by the time the other half has squeezed the kitchen sink in it weighs a shade more than a Panzer tank, but the Paj tows it no probs. She will sit all day at 55 in 5th on all but the steepest hills. If I want a better towcar I'll have to ask my transport manager if I can use my company vehicle, a MAN 460 TGA XXL 44 ton tractor unit 8) I suggest maybe a service or a tuneup might help. |

Update on my original post on mpg and black smoke. After getting pulled over by police twice in a fortnight telling me to get smoke problem sorted I booked into diesel specialist in Southampton. They drove it up the road & came back & told me the boost rod in pump was siezed open & it would be £600 to sort it out .Had read about Van aarken on other posts so gave them a go .Said they could sort it for £340.Took a day off work a week ago and took it up to them.Stayed there and waited for 4 hours until they finished it .They told me emmissions read 9.5 might have been even higher but that was as high as equipment read.Got reading down to m.o.t pass standard. No more black smoke, pulls like a train up hills and does 28 mpg .I am well happy and would thoroughly recommend them. |

Allan, I think it's one of those old fashioned wooden boats they used to have before outboards were invented |
