The hold position excludes first gear, for use in icy or other slippy conditions so less loss of traction, car will set off in 2nd gear.

Happy new year all!

Just a quick one! under the bonnet today and noticed a light covering of oil around the pwr steering pump bracket, havent really had a good look but i dont think its a leaky pipe, think it maybe a seal on the shaft? has anyone had this before and replaced the seals? Are the seals available or will it be a new pump at some stage? Crying or Very sad Any suggestions?

Hold, (no idea why it's called that, cos it don't) Starts you off in second & changes up quicker, more of an economical setting really.
Normal, just that, the normal gear setting.
PWR, Starts off in first & holds the gears longer. As cssuk says, more of a Sports mode really.
Only PWR & Hold display on the dash, in the SuperSelect bit in the middle.
HTH.

Hold will keep the box in as high a gear as conditions allow. (helps to prevent loss of traction in slippery conditions)
Normal will allow the box to change gear as it sees fit.
Sport will hold on to the gears for a longer period allowing the engine to work in it's power band better.

The o/d switch is basically what it says, it switches the o/drive off or on. (Cruising gear).

Not like the 2.8 Derv Monster then. Shocked
The PWR button in them just means about 15mpg instead of the more economical 25mpg. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
Oh! and the nose bleeding acceleration that accompanies it, I wish. LOL.

Are you talking about the pump leaking or the gear box?
If the pump, it could be just overfilled and leaked when hot.
Very easy to replace pump.
