hi great news Very Happy ,found the problem(i think) i phoned a diseal place today(thames valley electro)very helpfull man says that it wont be injectors or pump timing if when egr blanked off she runs good,so he said they have had alot of imports in with same prob,it will be the egr solonoid or theres a solonoid on top of the fuel pump,so after i put the phone down went straight to the egr solonoid and took off,i found that the vacum pipe that went into the inlet manifold the one with white stripes on had a tiny(i mean tiny )metal reducer in,which was blocked,so ive removed this and now with the egr all connected back up she flies,to get the reducer out i got a coat hanger and feed it up the vacum pipe and she just pops out,ive driven for about 25miles so far with no probs but will keep you informed wav

just removed my one as per above post and it has made no difference it is exactly the same as before but i will add that mine reducer wasnt blocked before removing so it could be worth while checking for others with the same symptoms just in case

By the way - I'd say Haynes is wrong (oh, just for a change) in saying that "the flow in increased in high load operation" - at WOT the inlet manifold pressures in a turbo diesel or turbo petrol are higher than the exhaust manifold pressures and it's impossible for EGR to occur (without physically pumping exhaust gases into the inlet manifold).

By definition of the mechanical device called "engine", the exhaust pressure is allways higher than the inlet manifold pressure. That's what the fuel is for, to raise the pressure. Saying otherwise is like saying that is the carriage that pulls the horses.
It doesn't matter if it's a turbo engine or not. But, by the way, It's the compressor that builds the inlet manifold pressure, thanks to the turbo, meaning, the exhaust manifold pressure. And the exhaust pressure could not build a higher inlet pressure, could it?

cssuk, one quick point - diesel engine don't suffer ill effects from detonation, as this is the whole process by which they work. They compress the fuel and air until it's so hot it explodes, which is what detonation is.

Not quite......
But close enough...

Let's not call it "detonation". The problem is "too much pressure" for a short period. If it results from detonation or whatever doesn't matter. This "too much pressure" happens also in a diesel engine, just like it happens in a petrol engine (detonation). Actually, it occurs under the same conditions, mostly, too much load and too low revs.

it has been ok for all of today Smile so i think maybe you where right m8,that my problem was just a blocked vacum pipe,or solonoid not working properly but when i removed solonoid and refiited, it started working ,i still have an egr valve and egr solonoid spare if you need them as i brought them thinking it would sort out the prob they are second hand though, would only want what i paid for them,or i will put them in for sale section next week, keep going mark as i still think that blanking it off is the last resort Wink
