A never bothered to re gas the aircon when I changed the engine 6 months ago, no need for it then! But now I need it. It's a 1990 Pajero, anybody got any idea which gas I will need? I am guessing R12 as its an older vehicle but can't find anything definite.

Yes it will be a R12 system but that is no longer used the best replacment is RS24 it is a drop in gas with no mods needed

what symptoms do you get when the system needs regassing does it take a long time to blow cool air or does it just stop working altogether?

Also, when the gas is pretty much gone, the engine stops revving faster when the A/C is selected.
Had mine regassed tonight by a local dude, £65. (vacuum clearout and regas with 135).

There is somebody on ebay selling R12 "equivalent" refrigerant which apparently is a direct replacement. A can containing 1 kilo which is enough to completely re gas a system costs £49.95. My local garage charge £80 to regas an aircon system.

But how are you going to leak test it and vacuum the system or add oil also a single system holds 750g/850g so the full can will put in to much a double system holds 1200g/1300g so the full can will not fill it
take it to a specialist and get it done right
