After repeatedly finding threads from here in google searches i figured i should sign up having bought a 98 2.8td lwb manual shogun just under a month ago!
Love owning it so far however it has turned out to be a bit of a lemon underneath despite having low miles for the year and a fairly solid engine/box.
Will have lots of questions in weeks to come but will try to find as many as poss using le search button - all too familiar with forum etiquette haha.
Have 3 weeks to get it prepped for an mot and a lengthy list to get through! Price was good i feel, perhaps a couple hundred over what its worth given the welding work needed but im a sucker for an underdog!
Will also be looking for spare parts and upgrades after mot time
I also run a 300+ horsepower impreza and a drift spec e36 bmw so this is a cool change of scenery for me - debating selling the bm to fund offroader awesomeness! haha quite fancy doing some greenlaning in it as well so if anyone is in central scotland would be cool to hear of any regular meets etc |

Whats on your "lengthy list"? Anything we can help with?
Welcome to the club... Theres a wealth of knowledge in the FAQ's as well as the search and of course dont be frightened to ask... Theres always someone who can help.
Good luck with the MOT

Thanks guys. Well, to put it into perspective it seems the concensus is its been used to tow/lower a boat/jetski into the sea
The chassis is rotten to put it politely but have a landy specialist who is confident he can have it mot'able weld wise for 300-400 and given the current rate the wide body seems to go for with similar mileage and what i paid theres still room to do other repairs/upgrades within reason...
At the moment, the list is as follows:
- Excessive play in front prop uj so planning on swapping out the whole prop for an ebay job.
- Rear shocks are goosed, one has actually come away from the strut top so still to investigate the cause - hopefully shock failure rather than yet more welding! Want to lift it but cant afford to pre-mot so annoyingly will need to replace with oem shocks.
- Needs rear discs and handbrake is pointing to the moon and squealing a bit on o/s when reversing so needs attention.
- Misfires for a few seconds on cold overnight startup with some white smoke, clears quickly if you hold the revs up a bit then runs smooth as a button and starts stop as it should until its sat overnight again - glowplugs?
- Rear wheel lights are not lit on super select diagram but figuring its a blown bulb. More annoying than a major issue.
Planning on a full service as well - all fluids to be on the safe side.
Mods list will include suspension lift and some big rubber on steels. Havent decided if i should go up to 16's or stay on 15's... Any input?
Home made roof crate, rock sliders and wind deflectors and maybe a winch one day to finish it off Bought it for a drift support vehicle to lug tyres and tools to the track but definitely see me getting the off road bug! haha |

Quite a list...
I dont think you need different shockers for a body lift anyway...
16 inch wheels with 265 75 16 tyres will give you about a 2" chassis lift iirc... ( more useful than a body lift for offroading anyway)
Starting issue does sound like glowplugs.
Your scooby looks the same as my old X reg WRX ... What a car!

And it might be cheaper to get you prop UJ replaced by a prop shaft specialist... Cost me about £30 when
I had the one done on my old Tiv...
