I done the 50/50 mix in my old disco, looking to do it in my 95 2.8 shogun glx. Looking though the forum it looks possible, though i seen the seal in the pump can go, is this common for veg oil or more age related?
Also would the ktc veg oil be ok to use?

The front fuel pump seal on the 2.8 (more so than on the 2.5) does tend to wear out with age. However veg oil will tend to strip away any oily sludge or degrading rubber that might be keeping it sealed when running on diesel only, so often if you switch to veg oil with an aging seal it'll start leaking.
Also you might want to get a spare fuel filter as the veg oil will tend to clean out the tank and fuel lines too, which can clog the filter if they're not very clean. Obviously once that's gone, filters should last the same as on just diesel. If you're running on processed waste veg oil, then you may get through filters more quickly depending on how well filtered the oil was.
KTC make a range of vegetable cooking oils, so it's hard to answer such a vague question. But if the oil you're looking at is rapeseed oil then that's fine. Sunflower doesn't tend to be quite as good, and stay well away from anything animal derived, palm oil or coconut oil. |

Here's a link to the 'howto' on removing the pump and replacing the front seal. 2.8 Pump Front Seal Fitting Guide
That's the oil I use from Costco, mixed 50/50 with diesel.
Shortly after I started using a veggie mix other seals on the pump started to leak and I had to have the pump overhauled. Having read recent postings on the subject I would have tried putting some brake fluid in the fuel mix to see if that might have fixed it.
If you do fit a new front (or other seals) make sure that they are suitable for veg oil use. Again lots of stuff on here about the necessary Viton front seal. |
