good informative post richie ... as some of us know - accidents do happen .... unfortunately it can all be too real...

Hence my dislike of winches. In the wrong hands they are a lethal weapon. For lots of self recovery situations, they are mounted on the front when ofton the back would be preferable.

Spend £800 on some proper training and alternative recovery equipment and forget about them altogether.
