Hey Guys and Girls,

If you’re not quite sure what your tyre pressures should be, following this formula will help you to work out the correct tyre pressures for any vehicle / tyre combination Very Happy  :-

Take the max rated weight and pressure from the tyre wall. It will say something like 3000lb at 50 psi. Then take your own Pajero's weight (users manual figure), assume equal weight on all four tyres. With a bit of maths you can work out the % weight you have to the max of the tyre and from that a % of the max tyre pressure you should use.

Hmmmm.. Confused ..My head hurts..... Shocked .. but here goes:

For example on my SWB 2.8 Auto with BFG AT’s 265 x 75 x 16 tyres:-

BFG AT 265/75 x16 Max Load Single is 3042 lb at 65 psi cold (this figure is printed on the side wall of the tyre).

Pajero SWB 2.8 Auto Gross weight (according to Manual) is 2720 Kg or 5,997.60 lb.
(to convert kg. to lbs. multiply kg by 2.2050)

    3042 (max single weight) x 4 (No of Tyres) = 12,168

5,997.60 (weight of Pajero in lbs) is 49.29% of 12,168.

49% of 65 psi (max psi cold) is 31.85 psi.

These figures will vary depending on tyre size and gross weight, so you'll need to check both the tyres you have, and the spec for your Paj.

If you find that you're running at high speed over long distances, or you're heavily loaded at all times, then you'll need to increase the pressures accordingly.

Hope you find this useful,

Mick.
