Hi can some one tell me why the pajero has two batteries and what their specific jobs are ?
Do I need two batteries?
Will the vehicle start from either one? |

They don't all have two batteries... if yours has, it has what is known as the 'winter pack'. It helps run all the extras (air con, toys, etc.) without draining all your power. |

theres many varaitions of specs, most of the are fitted with the winter pack or to help with the accessories. however a winter packed truck is slightly higher, can have a heated fuel pump which kicks in from 0 to - 8 to help aid starting. normally there is a sticker in jap which says winter pack, forgoton the colour of it tho, think it may be orange and on the rear door. |

It was part of a list of options in the winter pack, the original buyer just picked what he wanted, thats why some have diff lock or lsd and two batteries etc, there are pajeros out there with one battery as standard but they are rare. |

two batteries good for -10 or -15 degrees - but not so good for fuel consumption these trucks are heavy enough as it is, so when we put an extra battery it carries more weight hence more fuel
Have you lifted the intercooler recently? some blo ody weight it has!
them sump guards with 6 bolts just under the engine! the weight of them!

I don't really think an 8kg battery makes much difference on a Pajero that weighs over 2000kg...
As others have said, the two battery option was popular (and probably pretty much standard at dealerships in the northern parts of Japan) as it gives over 1000 Amps of cranking current if needed for turning over an engine with sludgy semi-frozen oil at temperatures below -10°C. |
