|
|
I am looking at supercharging my EVO but dont know any GOOD supercharge dealers in the North wales or surrounding areas.
Could you please help as i will be comming into some money and really want to do this. Or i could go for the Nitros .
Can you people tell me what engine mods might need to be done to the engine and autobox to take the extra power.

You will both have to visit that big scrap yard in Llan, and ask can you use their magnet when everything goes bang.
Come on, ain't an Evo fast enough for North Wales, one of Brunstroms d1cks reckoned my 2.5 was doing 80 the other day, I said I would be made up if it did 75, |

There are some brushless electric superchargers on ebay, don't know if they're any good but their website is worth a look.
The cost is £250 assembled or £100 to build yourself but this doesn't include the 'blow-off' valve.
I was toying with the idea of trying one out but their latest one (Gen.4 i think) isn't out yet so i chose nitrous instead.
I have fitted most of it and i'm just waiting for a couple more bits & pieces then i'm awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy |

Love the idea of adding a supercharger to the Evo. Surely there's some additional hp to be gained.
Word of wisdom based on what my fellow GMC Typhoon owners were doing in the early 2000s. Many were flashing the ECUs to increase the PSIs on the turbos. Limits were unknown so MANY engines were blown during that time. Be nice to get a sense of the limitations of the Evo engine before modding it so you know where the threshold limits exist. Just my two cents |

we figured on some normal tuning, first a mivec controller, bring the kick in lower down the rev range - that will make a huge differance, ive also got some info on a throttle body conversion (yeaaaaa) looks like somet from a metro 6R4, and a good remap, free flow exhaust, + manifold....think about it, by doing the above to a honda civic you see almost 85 bhp, by doing it to a 3.5 V6 its going to easy add over 100 bhp without really putting any stress on the motor... then you just need an anchor to chuck out the window for stopping.. |

intake mods are the key with the evo.
as i have played around with the exhaust side with not much effect. the stock 63mm throttle body is the issue.
either turbo of a individual throttle body set up would net very good results.
just need to find out if the 6g75 mivec has the same head intake manifold gasket.. as its not a common engine. |

Don't go past taking your factory throttle body to a local engineer/turbo specialist and check boring out. I know they can be bored out to at least 65mm for starters.
The throttle bar which holds the plate inside can be swapped for evo 7, which is much thinner and blocks less of the throttle opening. In turn better flow.
The old 4g63 n/a throttle body would be best seen they have more beef to bore out I think 67mm, but the throttle pos sensor is different and would require rewire. I haven't taken my throttle body off yet either, the intake may need to be matched to the new throttle size?
I am about to carry out a pressure drop test across the intake air box etc and then to throttle body etc. all good points on the forum. Will put some posts up with my findings. I like the idea of supercharging.
I also own an old mitsi 88 lancer hatch back with a 250kw 4g63, I have used all genuine parts incl throttle bodies bored out. I pulled the intake apart on my evo paj in the weekend for a recon and saw it is all exactly the same as the period evo, bolt patterns etc all look exact. So I am heading in the same way with mods and have a few spare throttle bodies in the cupboard. Looking forward to the test and finding my quick wins. |

the evo tb cant be done easily.
i tried this, the problem is the smaller pajevo 63mm throttle has the bore offset.
the 6g74 single cam 65mm throttle has the bore more central, but still offset. from my destructive tests on the lathe, only a 2-3mm increase is feasible.
an off the shelf 70mm 4g63 evo throttle is the only "easy" option. |

When you say 'off the shelf', do you mean it's a straight fit? I have a 6" bore k&n cone on mine. I used a ducting reducer to fit it to the standard piping and it sits in air box. It seemed to make a nice improvement. I'd love to supercharge mine or even just make it a bit quicker and more unique but it seems they're still relatively untouched |

There's a difference between doing the conversion and getting it to make more power. Or even run. You're not going to do it without dropping the CR.
Throttle bodies....the sizes vary depending on how you measure them?
The biggest stock throttle body is on the Diamante 30M, from memory it's 67mm / 67mm
The 3.5DOHC is the next bigest at 65mm / 62mm.
The 3000GT/GTO is 62mm / 60mm. The first number being the outside. The second number being the diameter at the flange. They're all a bit tighter at the butterfly.
Evo lancer throttles are a bit smaller.
If you want to upgrade the throttle.......what's wrong with 2 of them?
