Both sides of the coin to give you options.

Either leave it blanked and take it somewhere who knows what theyare doing for setting up.

Or

Clean the EGR based on the thread in FAQ and the get it set up properly.

I hope thats a balanced enough reply Wink

But its obviosly not running right now so either get it set up right now or clean the EGR and get it set up right then Wink

Once the pump has been adjusted there is no way of knowing which way and by how much (unless the yellow paint is visible and obvious on the screw threads).

So go away mate and stop trying to bring my unusually good mood down and force me into arguing Wink

Uk spec Shoguns don't have it fitted because the mixture and timing are altered which reduces bore temperature.

The problems that are caused by blanking are only shown up 40 or 50,000 miles down the line, when most people have sold the cars.

Blocking the EGR can lead to localised hot spots in the head which will contribute to cracked heads and blown head gaskets.

How many people on here have had blown gaskets and cracked heads and have blocked the EGR off.

I think rather than making bold statements Simon if you spoke to the man who does know and see where he stands on blocking the EGR off Wink

How much of a "Specialist" was the person who adjusted the pump?

Another area to check are the injectors - something easily forgotten.

took it back to the specialist (i was quite chuffed when i saw the work he had done on a lot of other pajeros) who showed me that the original blanking plate (not a pocuk one Embarassed ) had a rather large hole burned in it, so he changed it for a much thicker custom built one and NOW it is virtually smokeless and the acceleration seems to have poked up a bit. am very happy now Very Happy

Well you're dealing with exhause gasses, and if a bean can was fitted by a diy'er it's hardly likely to last the course!

It's interesting your specialist was happy to re-fit a plate and adjust accordingly - that tends to support my local specialist's view on the things.

Rolling Eyes Yes I am that newbie - I have read so many egr posts that I think I will start a business called EgrsRus - One thing that did come to mind is that there must be a reduction in oxygen content of the air entering the engine if it is mixed with exhaust gas. By not allowing exhaust gas into the fresh air then the combustion must be better - but a bigger bang would produce more heat -  but this increase cannot be that great as there seems to be no huge increase in power output - but without a doubt if the oxygen percentage changes then the fuel pump and timing would need to be adjusted to optimise this new condition. It is an interesting dilema as the fitting of the valve is only to control emissions but on the other hands if everything else is OK - injectors, pump, timing etc then the valve makes no apprecable difference to the performance one way or the other and and and and - oh dear I seem to be losing the will to live. On another note my 93 paj 2.5 td auto seems to have a mind of its own, when coming to a standstill and putting the car into neutral, the engine revs rise to about 1200 for a few seconds and then die back to normal. I have the A/C on so it may be something to do with that but i'm not sure  - any advice gratefully received . Adrian jones
