I've just purchased a import for towing my Knaus caravan (1600kg approx), I took it on holiday and experienced loss of power when going up hill, at which point I turned OD off, once at top I switched back on - will this cause any damage if I'm switching on and off a lot ?

Also is there any tuning that can be done to the engine to increase power ? Question

No problms switching OD on and off, thats what there built for, tune up, just book yourself into a reputable diesel place and get them to check timing, pump etc, just watch the cost of this, varies an awful lot.

May I also say you should check the gearbox oil.... should be reddish and smell like oil, if its black and smells like burnt cornfields change it.
Autobox and big van= keep an eye on oil!
that said they are a wonderful towcar!
