How to raise your Torsion bars.

1. Place your Pajero onto level ground as possible, most definetly not on a slope, measure the distance from the centre of the wheel to the top of your in the middle.. this is so your car will be level before and after..this also is a guideline to how much too raise your pajero normal limits are 2-3inches max from stock height. Any higher than this will cause stress to your CV joints which in turn will accelerate the wear time on them and then in turn too lead to failure of them, if this happens its a fail on your MOT. Also any higher can result in a higher front end than rear and would look pretty stupid.

2. Now jack the front end up of your pajero (remembering to chock the rear wheels for safety) place the pajero onto axle stands (preferably 3tonne+ stands for added safety) this also aleviates any pressure on your Torsion Bars . Ok now place yourself under your pajero and find the 2 adjusting bolts situated at the back of both Torsion Bars at the rear of the your pajero. As a precaution give them a spray with some WD40 or other penetrating oil before you start too adjust them, using a rathet socket (easier to manipulate) start too tighten up the bolts (same turns on both side). This will start too lift your pajero (make sure its the same amount of turns). Now lower uour pajero and re-take the measurements (check section 1) and compare the measurements, either tighten again or loosen depending upon the height gained.

3. Lower your pajero back onto its wheels, and take it for a 5minute run, this will "settle" your torsion bars and life will drop by a fraction due to this.. Dont worry if it feels a little heavier or firmer as this is normal. Due to the tightening of the adjustable bolts, its applying more pressure as as such feel lots stiffer..Once you have been for a quick drive, retake the measurements again and compre with the first set of measurements. follow steps two and three untill you have gained the height you require.

Hi.

Great post Shieldy, very informative.

Perhaps after spending sometime here it should be moved as a sticky in the FAQ section so is does not get lost.
