help, i have taken all pipes from pump to injectors off to remove the cylinder head, when i did this i noticed diesel coming from the front of the pump and running off the pully, now i'm putting it all back together ,all pipes replaced and tight but when i try to prime the pump/pipes diesel pumps out through pully, i dont want to replace all the new belts and cover them in diesel. anyone got any ideas what is happening or gone wrong Crying or Very sad  thanks darren

Are you talking about an electric or engine driven fuel pump?
I have an engine driven pump that has a geared drive wheel.
It's not a belt and pulley arrangement Confused
This is hidden when the pump is fitted.
If you are seeing fuel weeping then it needs sorting.
The early 2.8's use engine driven pumps and the drive shaft seal fails on these.
The pump needs to be removed to change this. The seal is cheap but pump removal takes time so expect a big bill from the garage.
If you're doing the cylinder head youself then the pump removal should present you with no problems. Check the FAQ section.
Good luck

Is yours a 2.5?
There's no valve in the 2.8's pump that would act as you've described.
On a petrol car you could turn the engine over whilst preventing it from fireing by disconnecting the spark plugs. This would pressurise any systems but how do do this on a diesel Confused hmmm.

There should still be a seal on the driving shaft which should prevent the contents of the pump leaking out.

Are you sure it's fuel? Mine also has engine coolant running around the pump.

Are you sure it's from the drive pulley shaft?
If you give me the beginings of your eng number (ie 4M40..) I'll have a look to see if I've got any info in the manual

hi rambrose, its a 2.5 1992 lwb, v44, i'm starting to think/hope that it is diesel coming from an overflow on the pump, and have been told the only way to get fuel to the injectors is by turning the engine over not by the pump on the fuel housing
.

Darren, I think you've given me your VIN or chassis number. Never mind. My manual on appears to show my pump. The other engines listed are petrol ones.
I've attached some diagrams which might be some use.
