Well, they won't take off like a Ferarri and you've got to remember
they're a heavy vehicle, so your mostly going to come last in a
Drag Race !! Laughing

Under hard-ish acceleration mine holds the shift longer and when
I'm towing it takes longer to get into top. So I just Kruize around
and take it easy, that way people get a better look at it. Plus, if I
break it, I've got to fix it !! Laughing

Simon, I've had the same wagon for a couple of months now. I didn't expect to be leaving many other cars standing at the lights but have been similarly dissapointed by the lack of acceleration and to some extent the top end speed.

In response to a similar query to yours some guys suggested blocking the EGR valve which apparently should give more oomph without harming mpg (mine currently averaging 26.5). I'm no mechanic and what little I know about this has been gleaned from the Technical Forum. It's certainly something I'm thinking about getting done.

If anyone else has any pros and cons about this I'd like to hear them

Overall though, I'm chuffed to bits with my Paj ( despite my mates Spannish wife telling me what Pajero means in Spannish!!!!!!)

Don't know if this is of any use but I complained about the lack of power on my 2.8 Auto and since I had nothing to compare it to I assumed that it was normal. After taking the caravan on a short trip I mentioned it again. Then after 1,000 miles around Scotland with the van I realised there was no way it was going to tow a heavier van than mine up hills and mine is only 1300kg. Sad The garage said they probably knew what was wrong and they booked it into a diesel specialists who could check the power output and adjust it if needed. As the garage suspected the fuel screw on the injector pump had been turned down.
It seems that it's normal to do this because the importers do not want it to fail the SVA smoke test because it costs them £450 every time and no free re-test! After the SVA they either forget to put it back or don't do it correctly. Before adjustment with the van, going uphill it was terrible, now it goes like a rocket, fuel consumption is better, it stays in higher gears more and I can overtake things without looking to see if there is a slope coming up! Very Happy Just for interest the smoke test limit is 3.0 and mine, after correct adjustment, was 1.63 so there was no need to fiddle with it in the first place. Hope this helps. John.

sounds interesting, is the adjustment something i can do, a normal garage, or do i need a specialist?

mine is definately slow on any hills.
