hi all can anyone shed any light on why my hand brake light stays on it goes off on occations and doesnt appear to effect the brakes at all !!!!
anyone?

check your brake fluid , it only needs to be down a bit for the light to come on , also check the rubber seal in the top of the cap to make sure its not twisted

hiya, sounds like reservoir level has dropped, gives a clue to pad wear, just add a small amount of brake fluid if low and re check. low pad indicators could be screechers depending upon model.

Yes, definatly first check the break fluid level, its on the left hand side of the engine bay near the bulkhead.

There is a 'max' and a 'min' level on it, if its below the min level the light will come on. You need 'dot 4' brake fluid to top up if needed.




On the other hand, it could be a faulty handbrake sensor. If you pull the handbrake up and look into the mechanism of it, you should see a little switch kind of sensor which turns the light on and off, its possibly stuck. Squirt a helping of wd40 in there, and work the handbrake, then wd40 again, and repeat a few times, and should free up the sensor - they can get dry and stick after a while.

thanks guys the pads were renewed recently so would think it may be a sticking sensor any idea how to locate the sensor would help!!!

unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap, tap the float in the middle, it should bob to the surface

Defo brake fluid level. Had me scratching my head for days on mine until I found the brake fluid just a smudge under full level

checked fluid reservoir and found level ok but it has a rubber boot thing which fits to to inside of the cap it was twisted replaced it to correct position and bingo alls well again     thanks to all
