|
|
I have a 1993 LWB Shogun 2.5td
I tried to change the auto fluid. The hand book said the capicity is 7.5 litres. When I removed the drain bolt on the box sump I only got about 2.5 litres of the old stuff out. I know the torque converter would hold quite a bit but not 5 litres!! what have I missed
Thanks for any help you can give |

LOL
You need to basically 'flush' out the cooler lines etc, and get the fluid out of converter.
Ive heard of people getting this done my mitsu at quite a reasonable price.
Or the other options is to do 2 or 3 changes yourself. |

you could disconnect the pipe to the oil cooler and drain it that way can be a bit messy though |

I have only ever got 2.5 ltrs out of mine, i just change it more regulary, atf fluid isn't too expensive... Seems a bit of a pig to drain all...
Next time i do mine i am going to drop the sump off, it is supposed to have a mesh filter that i want to clean out... |

best way to do it... drain plug oil will come out, take off the oil cooler pipes wich attach to the gearbox just take off one pipe, run the engine and go through the gear box up n down the box for about 3-5mins this should get more out for ya |

Thanks for all your replies.
Wont running the box with no fluid knacker it?
I need to take the sump of as the bolt was threaded when I took it out. Should have replaced it at the time but thought I might get away with using it one last time. Now just turns in there and leaks a bit of fluid.
Thats what you get for trying to do a bit of work on the car with wife and kid moaning cos they want to go shopping!!! Rushin and *beep* it
I spoke to mitsi who said i needed Special sp III fluid but thats £9 per litre. Was advised by auto specialist that dexron II is fine.
Any tips? |

is there any way of telling which boxes actually have a filter?
the haynes book is a bit hit or miss on the subject.
