It was always from the date of first registration. Which country that was is not important.

However, with this present shower in charge, anything is possible. They seem to change the rules as it suits them

I just went to update my original post from 2007  Embarassed  Embarassed  - discovered I couldn't edit it, so I thought I'd add to this discussion..

Well .. on first reading it does appear that the wording may have been changed on the dvla website ...er...sorry .. the directgov website Rolling Eyes  in that they do not state 'date of FIRST registration' .. I can't recall whether it used to say date of first reg or not, but if you read on a bit, it does clearly state this in the 'more expensive' section:

Cars registered on or after 1 March 2001 (based on fuel type and CO2 emissions)
The rates shown only apply to cars that have been type approved in category M1 and registered on the basis of CO2 emissions measured in grams per kilometre (g/km) driven. These details are shown on the Registration Certificate.

Since we don't ( or rather THEY   Twisted Evil  don't ) have this info on cars registered before March 1st 2001 - all cars FIRST registered
before 1st March 2001 fall into the category as posted below .. unless the DVLA, DVLC DIRECTGOV  Rolling Eyes  Confused or whatever have made a mistake of course .. Not that they'd do that  Rolling Eyes :

So..

Cars registered before 1 March 2001 (based on engine size)
Private/light goods (TC11)

Engine size (cc)

Over 1549
12 months rate £185.00
6 months rate £101.75

Just to make you feel really good - where we are now in France, there is no road tax - I understand it was put on the price of fuel a while ago - which is currently about £1 a litre.. which is still cheaper than UK  Confused  Laughing
