Handy tool thanks. I just looked mine up out of idle curiosity. Apparently in 2008 it failed on, amongst other things, "nearside rear shock absorber missing"  Surprised

Thanks for this, very very interesting. I just checked mine. OK I bought it with an MOT. but when I looked at the history on this link I found the MOT it passed which didn't surprise me. BUT I found a MOT failure at another garage about 2 miles away. This failure was a week earlier and a hundred miles earlier and it had some serious faults. These faults were enough to fail it at one garage but appear only as advisories at the garage that passed it a week later. On the pass certificate it says both rear leaf springs are slightly deteriorated but not enough to weaken them. A week earlier on the fail certificate these are described as having a fractured leaf and excessive movement in the shackle pin. Given that I intend to tow with this, I reckon I should take a very good look. Seriously this link could save someones life.

You'd think trading standards would use it - they'd have an easier job finding garages to look at!

I think you'll find that these days the majority of culprits are private punters, when they take their car to a garage to px and the history doesnt tally up they just shrug their shoulders and whistle. Whereas, traders will always go to prison!

Mine checks out nicely on the mileage history. Also I knew it failed an MOT (carried out just before I bought it) as the dealer told me. But better still, this site bears out what he told me - ie that it failed on rear brakes (discs/pads replaced) and some corrosion to brake pipes (also replaced) The car was then re-tested as passed without advisories.

Really useful link, thanks.
