I am trialling this to see if it can work for The Club ... please stick with it ...

The POCUK continues to be free-to-join, with voluntary contributions and Lifetime Memberships helping to fund The Club, but I would like to step things up a gear AND keep The POCUK free to use.

This means, looking at opportunities to generate revenue in other ways.

The Google Ads look like a fair way to do this ... I've chosen options to keep them discreet, so they're not intrusive and, while there's a 'learning period' within google, the ads are 'context sensitive' and should only be 'Pajero related'... this can take up to 48 hours to settle in.

Google assure me that there are no offensive advertisers supported in their program, so you won't see any violence / porn / gambling / drugs related links and nor should you see (after the settling-in period) anything that you really don't want - ie personal loan offers etc.

I'd like to give this a trial for one week and, if enough people generally have mis-givings, then it can be removed.

If you do vote, then please add a comment to this thread to say why you chose to vote the way you did.

ATB

I'll kick this off ...

I've given it a "thumbs up" as the ads are discreet and the potential is there to generate 'click-thru' revenue to help develop The Club further.

In addition, the ads are context sensitive, so should only offer useful links to Pajero / Shogun / Montero owners.

I will do whatever I can to keep the POCUK 'free-to-join' and this is one way that will help to maintain that goal.

just a question
in the past viruses have been passed on via some of the things within the google network particularly ads, have you got the filters in place to identify any that could potentially harm this forum .
If so then i for 1 know this is your business and that really the choice/decision  is yours

I have been discussing the ad campaign with Google over the last couple of months and I've spent a lot of time looking into the options and previous issues ...

I'm confident that I have everything neccessary in place Wink

If the ads are kept fairly inobtusive and relevant and the links also provide links back to POC I don't see there being any problems thumbright

You mean like right click and open in new window/tab  Confused

Fine by me, as long as like Paul says the club makes money without them been clicked, because I won't

Unless the more times you click them the more money you make and then I might click them for fun to build revenue, as long as it doesn't mess my computer up  Laughing

i fear that the adds thing always gets out of hand .the bigger the firm the harder to reign in.you raise revenue but let the genie out the bottle and it never goes back in....... ever thought of a pay for classified adds section?link it to auto trader.the link may raise advertising revenue from them and would certainly bring people back to the pocuk site...just a thought.jb.just another thought shouldnt we be nurturing a sense of brotherhood between all 4x4 drivers as we will all face the same green party attack in the next 20 years and divided we are weak and ineffective.i have no problem with land rovers or suzuki vitaras etc whilst i understand a lot is said in jest there is a lot of vitriol flying about and one day if we dont all stand together we will lose the right to drive big gas guzzling cars, which is a terrible shame as my other car is v8!
