I have not tried this but think the idea of a towball mounted winch is quite good.
If you have a towball front and rear you can swop from front to back!!
Anyone used one of these?? Would it be stong enough for a paj??

Now that's bizarre, Baz... I discovered their site just yesterday! A guy at work told me they do excellent 4x4 training courses (1.5 days)... the Police and other emergency services use them.
They also sell a 9,000lbs, entry level winch for £279.00 (free P&P for online orders)!
And they're only about 20 miles from here... might go over and have a looksee, when I get some spare time! |

You'll need the 9000lb winch or above for the Paj like the one shown on the pdf link
Superwinch EPi9 mounted on the largest of our portable bak-rak
units, with Dyneema-Bowrope, aluminium hawse and harness @
£599 + VAT
As far as I can see there are pros and cons to this idea
Pros;
Only fitted when you need it.
Will stay clean and serviceable in the back of the Paj until needed.
The winch can be used on a second vehicle with suitable wiring installed.
Could be used on the front with a suitable tow hitch and frame fitted.
Cons
Winches are heavy things to carry about.
When you want to use it you are likely to be knee deep in mud and carrying/fitting the winch could be really difficult or impossible.
Will it be left in the garage on that one occasion when it's needed most?
It needs a towbar to hang it off which in itself limits departure angles.
Just a few points off the top of my head, HTH |
