Second time I have done this now. The first time involved lots of swearing, jumping up and down on the bar, injury and frustration as the screwdriver repeatedly fell out of the ring gear. Not to mention the half bottle of gas I used heating it up, subsequently setting fire to the oil seal.

The second time round was a doddle, wish I did it first time.

Simply slide the breaker bar through the recovery hook, and use extensions to get the socket onto the crank. Once you are happy just crank the starter and it will spin the bolt fee.

Note: you don't necessarily need to use the hook, I just found it convenient and safe place to secure the bar with the extensions I had. Don't worry you don't need to hammer to cross member to death with a lump hammer like I did, in usual circumstances the socket extensions will rest conveniently straight on it. However this Pajero had a disagreement with a tree so the cross member was bent and in my way.  As long as the bar is straight and secure you won't have any issues.
