im trying to adjust the kickdown cable as have been having o/d problems and want to rule out everything bar the gearbox being knackered first.I've measured the slack and its coming in over 40ml as opposed to beetween 34-35,however when i try to adjust it using the adjusting bolt while that moves backwards and forwards it doesnt actually do anything Any ideas would be appreciated thanks noel |

Thanks but not really as i found that in the tech section, bit worried now that if the box isn't damaged that it could go that way,as i said when i try to use the adjusting nut whether i move them back or forwards it doesnt seem to have any effect on the distance beetween the two points the measurements should be taken from like it has no effect on the cable other than act as a conduit to run it through |

when you say adjusting BOLT do you mean the NUTs that hold the outer cable in place 1 each side of the slotted bracket |

and you are taking the measurement from the inner cable stopper to the first turn of thread on the outer cable basically the bit under the red plastic sleeve |

I Have exactly the same problem on my 1990 Mk1 2.5.
Did u ever find out the cause re. the cable distance?
OR anyone out there know what it could be?
Thanks in anticipation |

Hi Jonnyb
Thanks for your prompt reply. I've taken the cable off the bracket and pulled on the inner cable which is sprung and goes in & out smoothly so don't think it's broken or jammed.
Yes the adjustments are made with the cable attached to the bracket.
My gearbox problem occured suddenly, nothing gradual, hence thinking either the kickdown cable or Throttle Position Sensor?
Do u own a MK1 out of interest? |
