Been looking tonight as got a bit of time, Im geting my new rad tomorrow so will be doing full coolant replacement and flush Saturday.

Read that to do a proper flush you need to remove thermostat, so my questions are where is it and how do I remove it, and what is the best way to fluch the engine out completely?

Cheers,

Shaun

Here's a piccie of the thermostat location. On the thermostat itself is a little 'jiggle' valve - this has to go on top when replacing the thermostat.

take a look here   http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k14/ichehawk/P5280020.jpg  best to replace the thermostat with a genuine mitsi one as well, thats what i did when i replaced my antifreeze, used the long life stuff from halfords, bright red and lasts five years.as for flushing,i used rad flush from club shop, then put a hose in every different orifice possible, top of rad, bottom hose of rad, through thermostat housing.for about half hour.

Did mine last weekend, original part £22 + VAT

On the left hand side of the motor as you look from the front, just above the alternator, two bolts to remove the housing and out she pops.

Mines a 2.8 by the way

Bottom pipe connects straight to the thermostat housing. Take your thermostat out and put it in pan of nearlt boiling water (simmering will do). If it opens within 10 secs thermostat will be ok.

Jack front end when refilling, engine running & rad cap off until temp normal.

Hope that helps.

2 12mm bolts on housing by the way

Managed to find it and take it out... thanks

But.....   It seems that the engine is still overheating a bit when driving hard, still no heating in car and the expansion tank bubbles after a while..

Does this mean head gasket or cracked head????

Might attempt a head gasket change myself as I reall cant bear to sell her...

Just tried to top up with water, poured about 5 litres onto/into the rad but it looks like it is presurising..

I cant understand why none of the heaters work though...  Is it because the pressure from the pistons is pushing the water back to the rad and not letting it get to the heat exchanger???? Confused

Thanks   Smile

Hi
Are you sure that the hoses going to the heater matrix are connected and have not been bypassed?????
Are the hoses getting hot to the matrix????
If there is one getting hot but not the other then prob a blockage in matrix, remove the two hoses and flush it, both ways ,
When you refilled the coolant did you leave the rad cap off and raise the front end, as there could be an airlock???
So many questions , If you fancy popping up to bussage near stroud i could have a squint at it, I cannot help sort it as not long been out of hosp but 2 heads are better than 1
