A range of PROTEC Engine maintenance products are available from the Club Shop <-- Click to view.
Please find below, a summary of the instructions for use of the Engine flush, Petrol injection cleaner and Diesel fuel line cleaner ...
Engine Oil flush instructions
Engine flush is only to be used as follows:
Run engine up to normal operating temp (in a well ventilated area) then add the contents to engine via rocker filler cap,
Run engine at idle only (again well ventilated) (do not drive vehicle) idle for approx 15 minutes and then switch off.
Drain the engine oil via Sump plug or, if using vacuum system, through the dipstick tube.
Allow oil to drain thoroughly and replace sump plug using a new washer or seal as required to do so by manufacturer, remove the oil filter and renew, preferably with a genuine manufactures filter or of equal quality.
Please remember not to pollute waterways / streams by careless disposal of spent engine oil, it is an offence to do so.
Petrol injection cleaner
This is a dual use cleaner that can be use in several ways. The most common is to run the vehicle until it is about a 1/3 empty, then carefully open the can ( avoid eye contact it is a irritant and if it comes into contact with or near your eyes please washer immediately and seek medical advice as soon as poss. ).
Add the contents to the fuel tank and then run until the fuel tank is near empty, or as near to the empty as you can personally trust the gauge to display correctly. This is a “once a year” treatment.
Petrol injection method for border line emissions failures - remove the petrol filter and drain the contents. By carefully covering the inlet port of the filter it may be possible to fill the filter with about a third of the can, replacing any copper washers or seals. The rest of the cleaner can be then added to the fuel tank .
On starting, the injection cleaner will purge the injectors and accelerate the cleaning action of the injectors.
Petrol injection cleaning by using the atomising method it is possible to introduce a atomised spray into the air intake port. Idle will have to be raised to a point at which the idle can be maintained without stalling and erratic running - it may be better to ask for the assistance of another person who can apply pressure to the accelerator pedal while the process is taking place.
Diesel fuel line cleaner or conditioner
Two main methods.
Firstly it can be added directly to the fuel tank. This is best to be carried out when the tank is down to approx 1/3 full. Just add the contents to tank via the fuel filler cap. This is a once a year method and can be done more frequently depending on use and mileage.
The second method is if the vehicle has a misfire or uneven running at idle or cold starting. Remove the fuel filter and drain contents into a suitable container, then refill or renew the filter with the contents of a can. It will take almost all of it and then refitting the filter and priming of the filter housing will be required by the plunger on the side if fitted or the large button type if using on a Shogun.
Run the vehicle for a five mile test and confirm the idle is stable.
If the vehicle has failed an emissions test the same method can be used but would recommend two cans - one for the fuel tank and one in the filter.
Remember - when using any Protec product care must be taken to avoid prolonged contact with skin and avoid at all cost contact with the eyes! |
