Hi,

I bit confused about the best way to go about changing my 94 2.8 TD ATF.  Confused

Some say to drop the oil out via the drain plug and top up again. Repeating this process several times 'diluting' the old stuff until you have effectively new ATF.

Another couple of threads suggest removing one of the oil cooler pipes and running the engine for 3 - 5 mins until all the fluid is pumped out. If it is okay to do then I would like to try this but running the engine with no ATF sets my teeth on edge. Mad  However this might be a case of a little mechanical knowledge........

Please could someone help, I want to do the job properly but as it is my only car I don't want to french connection it up!  violent1

Ian

ian_cam,
you have to be patient and do it the way you have been told, several goes, there is no other way or quick fixes, has you dont want an air locks in your gearbox, sorry if this answer is tedious. But there you go.

changed my ATF today,  it was disgusting i have no idea when it was last changed if ever.

Thick black and sludgy.

4 litres happily drained out in one go.  Topped back up.  gear change seems much slicker, and when stopping the loud pedal, she shifts down much quicker than before.

must remember to check the lever again later.
