PostPosted: Thu Apr 10, 2008 5:24    Post subject: Food etc at Mega Meet Reply with quote

last date for sign up is ....  Wednesday 30th April

ok,

previously at mega meets  and some club meets we have had the format as below:

nobody HAS to have these options,  and some/all of any family can have part or all of each ...  the idea is to make it easier for folks to have a good time, without having to think about food,   and to make it all a lot more sociable, without everyone cooking their own evening meals ...

previous mega meets we have done ..

Friday -  Chilli con Carne,  Rice etc  -  £2.50 adults, kids £1 (will also do a savoury mince dish (almost a bolognese, but served with Rice)  for non-chilli folks)

Saturday - Big BBQ  - the main event - £5  adults, kids £2 -  not your standard burgers and sos bbq ......  previously we have had   pork, steak, shark, burgers, sausage, rabbit, lamb steak, mussels, tuna, swordfish,  prawns, squirrel, squid, etc etc   and salads, bread etc etc   plus desserts - sticky toffee pudding

Sunday - Party tea - sandwiches, cakes etc, remainder of bbq food - £2 a person

to acheive this, we need donations of charcoal, and paper plates, sauces , napkins etc ... so that we can spend the most money on food

I am a chef, so i get trade prices, which enables us to do this ........  if anyone wants to have some specific steaks ... i can also sort this ....  fillet, sirloin, rib-eye or rump ....... at trade cost - (pm me if interested)

i am totally open to ideas, and will work a format if it is possible .....

this is a club meet for everyone to have input into .....

we also will need some bbq's  and equipment  !!   so, if you normally have a bbq with you, just pitch it in for use ....  please ....  similarly,  any use of tables, bowls, utensils, etc etc    ....   let me know if you can help with regards to this ....  and size of it etc ..

we have a few folks who are regular  " cooks at the helm "   but, if anyone is willing to help out with cooking, that is definately appreciated ...

as is any help during the day, setting up, sorting the gazebos etc etc

hope all this makes sense ...

please  --- be a part of it !!...

*****************************************************
Ok,  how does this sound .... (just found this from last year ! - seemed to work ok, so copied it ... Laughing )

to save everyone cooking seperately, and to bring it all together of an evening ,  and to keep up with Mega Meet tradition, family values, and the amazing POCUK !!

A Potential Menu !!

if anyone has any other better ideas, or tweaks etc  -  i am totally open to suggestions .. post em below ...

Friday
Chilli and a bit of a BYO local food buffet ....
Chilli con carne, Rice, Wraps, Tortillas etc (will also do a savoury mince dish (almost a bolognese, but served with Rice)  for non-chilli folks)
- £2.50 - adults, £1 kids ..   plus, if anyone wants to BYO and pitch in local delicacies from where they are from - desserts, snacks, etc etc ..  these foods could be used at any point over the weekend ..

Saturday
Huge BBQ -  a sumptuous array of meats and accompaniments

adults £5 each  kids £2 each  - unless big kids who eat loads  -  ( be honest!)  - to make this work, we need folks to bring some charcoal, and odd bits and pieces of serving stuff, like large platters, bowls etc ..   also, any sauces, condiments etc ..or anything else you can think of ...  the more is communally brought, the more we can spend on food ...

Sunday
Buffet - any food thats left, and a quick on-site whip round to supplement it  £2 an adult, £1 a kid has worked ok before ....  with a trip to the supermarket, and an aim to do a sort of "party tea" for the kids ..that we all eat as well

We also need items like  tables, chairs, beer for chefs, wiping cloths, paper plates, napkins, etc etc

also , willing helpers  to do food prep, washing up, cooking, general setting up, tidying up, etc etc

mega meet works, coz we all pitch in and help to make the event great...!!

these are just ideas of what has worked in the past ...

no-one is compelled to do any of it ..  if you want to eat seperately   you can, and come and join in whenever ya want ...   no probs ..

BUT ..  we need numbers for butchers orders of who wants what for ..

please post below, and i will add to this post ..

Always thought you were saucy Sophie, not brown sauce by any chance, if it is, be careful when it is the Paj, if it leaks it goes every where:

Can you put me and Celtic down for the bbq on Saturday please - the rest of our lot are vegaterian and vegan (so very wrong I know Sad) so will bringing their own.  Not too sure about the Sunday, but will let you know.

We can also bring a couple of tables, we have a load of bowls and spoons left over from chillin,  a few spare hook up leads if you can use them, a small bbq, and a 800w genarator if you can make use of it.

no need for gennies  -  plenty of hook-ups   -  extra hook up leads would be good though  - especially if they end in a 13amp socket ......  for our  "auxilliary lighting", heating, sounds etc
